Agree with allergies. First get rid of the carpeting or pay someone to clean it. If that doesn't help then get tested for allergies, including foods.

I'm in an apt, so I can't just rip up the carpeting. Due to having an apt, I never got drapes either. However, I went out today & got a $70 vacuum & just vacuumed & dusted my whole apt. I'm breathing better already! Next, I soon plan to have the carpet steam cleaned.

do you have central air? If so, buy the 3M brand filters and change them every month (they are good for three).

Sounds like allergies to me. Try visiting an allergist and getting tested. That way, you'll know what to avoid.
