I wasn't feeling very good, so I got a blood chemistry panel done. The nurse said that my results were normal, even 'excellent', as I have good cholesterol and iron levels. How come I still feel sick then?

My chronic symptoms include acne at age 20, irregular periods, cold knees at night, and occassional feelings of heart flutter. What can these indicate? I am thinking these have something to do with the thyroid, but not sure. What sort of doctor and testing should I look for?

My chem panel:
total cholestrol: 180
hdl: 74
triglycerides: 48
ldl: 96

urea nitrogen (bun): 12
creatinine: 0.60
eGFR non-african american: 131
eGFR african american: 152
BUN/creatinine ratio: not applicable
sodium: 139
potassium: 4.6
chloride: 104
carbon dioxide: 27
calcium: 9.7
protein total: 7.1
albumin: 4.8
globulin: 2.3
albumin/globulin ratio: 2.1
bilirubin total: 1.2
alkaline phosphatase: 44
ast: 16
alt: 21
ggt: 13
iron total: 156

I have acne and I am 51. If you have oily skin it will be a lifelong ordeal, but you should only be breaking out prior to your period. Since you have irregular periods you may want to consult your gynecologist. Have not clue about the cold knees, but if you are a caffeine drinker that may have something to do with your heart flutters, or stress.

I recently went to my doctor because I was experiencing a lot of fatigue. It was hard to get through a day without long naps and I never felt good. This lasted over a month. My doctor said it was probably a virus but did a full blood panel. Before the results of my blood work came back I woke up one day and felt great! I have been feeling myself again. The blood work came back normal to excellent so I guess I did have a virus.

I have the same. Only my last doctor tested me for the kissing disease, & thats what came back positive. I forget its medical name but its a virus that makes you tired and feel sick.

Sounds hormonal related to me. Could you ask your PCP to refer you to an endocrinologist? How are your pelvic exams? Did they not check your glucose level? It could be PCOS or something related. You should ask for a CBC, too. I see no indication that they checked you for any type of infection nor did they check your hemoglobin and ferritin levels.

Kissing disease = mono.

Mono?

Yeah it makes you sick and tired. But I've never heard of irregular periods, acne, or heart flutters as a symptom of mono. Its also a pretty common virus, so it would be easily diagnosed by a doctor, especially when a tests were done.

Maybe it is time for you to see a OB?GYN specialist, if for no other reason than your irregular periods. The acne, this is something, some people have most of their lives to some degree. It doesn't mean there is something wrong with you other than oily skin.

I am older than dirt and still get breakouts. It's b/c I have rosacea. Talk to a dermatologist about it. I take 100 mg doxycycline daily and it works.

All of your symptoms could be completely unrelated.
