If you live near a "Trader Joe's" your in luck. They sell some very decent wine at really low prices. I go there ever two months and stock up.

I can be a wine snob when appropriate, but for everyday I like an inexpensive merlot, shiraz, zinfandel, or cabernet sauvignon. Those are all fairly dry. If you prefer something sweeter, you could try a rosé, blush, or port, although I'm not sure these have the same type health benefits as the true reds.

I agree with the above two posts. Trader Joe's in-house brand "Charles Shaw" wines are decent and cheap enough that you can pick up one of each type to experiment. I've had overall good results too with Walmart's Oak Leaf brand.

Taste in wine (as in other drinks/foods) is so personal. You'll have lots of fun with your research, I expect.

You'll discover if you like a sweet or a dry wine. A robust full flavor, or something on the lighter side.

Have fun finding your personal best!

We happen to like dry reds, it doesn't make much difference for our daily glass what we drink. I will be honest. We are content with a glass or two of boxed wine before dinner. When we have company or want something a little more special we have several kinds we like.

I remember reading that it's not beneficial to suddenly start this practice if you don't drink alcohol.

It has also been discovered that NON-alcohol red wine is what has the health benefits.

We can read anything and believe it. I wonder why drinking a glass of red wine (5 oz or so) even if you have never drank would harm anyone? No, I did not read the article. As for non alcoholic red wine having the same effects, why not just drink grape juice if that is the case? I just read the study, you are saying "it has just been discovered" is a little over the top. One study done, on a very small group of people is certainly not a discovery. It is just a small study. In fact a study can be done to prove anything it wants to prove and still not really be proof.

Wine snobs will dismiss it, but I buy the Vella wine that come in a box (Franzia or Oak Leaf is okay too). It doesn't go bad since air doesn't get to it, so if you only drink a glass per day it'll last a long time. I always buy either Cabernet or Merlot.

It's fun to go to tastings at local wineries and learn about different wines. If you have any nearby, it's a great day out plus a fun way to discover what you like.
