Over the last two years, I have been getting boils. I have had 9 so far. They are painful and no fun. I had the last two lanced at the doctors office, I now have another one and will have to call the doctor again.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep from getting them? Perhaps there is something that I can take to help. Or any ideas on how to care for them.
Thanks for any ideas.
These are infected hair follicles (my guess) and must be treated aggressively, as your MD seems to be doing. I am assuming s/he's sending off a wound culture after draining it and before putting you on antibiotics. Use warm compresses and DO NOT PICK AT THEM!!! As someone else said, keep your skin clean. You can try showering with Hibiclens (available without prescription) and scrub out your shower frequently with bleach solution - 1/4 cup to a gallon of water. See your MD.
My husband gets these HORRIBLY! The best thing we have found now is Camphophenic (Sp?). Soak a cottonball in the campho, then tape it onto the boil. Change it ever couple of hours or so. It actually KILLS the bacteria. Last month, my husband had one behind his ear...this thing was HUGE! We talked to a doctor (not in the office) and they said he would have to go to an urgent care or hospital because they would have to surgically remove/lance because of it's location. I found out about the campho and it was GONE within 2 days!
As far as what you can do to prevent them....
Drink LOTS of water...if you can, drink Aloe Vera juice as well. They key is to flush your system out and keep your system cleansed. They start from within so you need to cleanse from within. My husband is the worst person I know with drinking water. It's Mountain Dew or Rock Stars or nothing.
You need to detoxify your body and keep drinking plenty of water. It WILL HELP!
I should add...when you use the campho, you will still need to make sure you remove the core. If you don't remove the core, it will just keep coming back.

Excellent site very informative. As kids when we got one we were always told it was because we did not clean enough. And then we'd have to bit a piece of wood while are parents squeezed it out. It hurt like hell

How does one remove the core of a boil and what does it look like?
It may just be me
But why is this doc just doing all of this lancing? and not testing you or at the least finding the root cause. It sounds like this continues to be very painful to say the least; It's time for some aggressive tx;(treatment).. There's a reason they keep coming up in the groin, with that being said; it's time to stop wondering and find out what's going on with you. If this area of practice is not your doctor's then "tell" him that you'd like a referral to a specialist Dermatologist or a good endocrinologist for further testing. are you drinking alcohol or have you ever consumed this excessively? just curious. Has he given you any antibiotics? If these are raised nodules full of pus they can sometimes be caused by" staph "bacteria. Here's a link do they resemble this? Multimedia: Furuncle: Merck Manual Professional
Hope you get better soon
God Bless
Modern Allopathic Western Medical Doctors are NOT TAUGHT how to find out about root causes. They are ONLY trained to treat SYMPTOMS of problems which is MUCH more LUCRATIVE for them. Gone are the days when regular MDs restore your robust health. They m ake more monehy just putting hyou on an Rx for the rest of your life.
You have to seek out N.Ds or naturopathic doctors to figure out causes of disease and to get your health back. They'd be the ones with the training and qualifications to figure out what is causing the boils and also to ELIMINATE the cause, which would eliminate them forever. I suspect, if you've had them for a long time, it is partly due to diet and probably the food group you like the most and eat the most of is what you should cut out for at least a few months and see how it goes. Then go on as CLEAN a diet as you can for those few months. Avoid chemicals and preservatives and refined foods like the plague. Tumors, cysts and boils are nothing but stored toxins so, if you have them, it is a sign you need to detox.
How does one remove the core of a boil and what does it look like?
You know, I really can't describe what it looks like. When it starts draining, puss will ooze out and their is a core inside that usually comes out with the puss, but not always. Once you see it, you'll KNOW it's the core.
Here's a link with some very good information about boils. There are a lot of home remedies there as well...some strange, but they must work. Boil Cures
