that's what I'm thinking. I hate to use the emergency room for this but if she cant stand it any longer and is in so much pain, she's had to have lost at least 10 lbs. in 2 weeks not to mention so much time off school.
I hope you are seeking emergency treatment today for your daughter. Losing 10 lbs in 2 weeks is not normal for a teenager. If not the ER can you call the gastro doc and see if your daughter can be worked in today.
went to her primary physician 2 times for this she ordered blood work and referred me to specialist. not sure what she checked for in the blood work but I do know that she is Anemic and positive for Epstein Barr virus.
You can also call the primary physician and see if they can get you in to see the specialist today. If that doesn't work, I would take her to the ER.
I've posted on this thread before about my 16 year old daughter having stomach issues for at least 2months now, sever stomach pain after every time she eats anything, sometimes vomiting and sometimes blood in the stool only. we finally have an apt with a specialist(gastro)on January 16th. I'm not one to rush to the emergency room I can honestly say my 2 kids have never had to go luckily but now im wondering if I should wait for the dr apt or take her to the emergency room. its getting so bad for her the pain is worse and she looks like a skeleton and is pale all the time and always cold. she's in school now and is almost doubling over in pain and wants to cry.. nothing helps her. what if anything will they do for her?
Yes, take her to the emergency room. Tell them that you have an appointment on the 16th, but you are worried. They will examine her and if they think necessary, they will admit her to find out what is wrong. If they determine she is stable, they will sent a copy of the ER visit to the doctor you have an appt with on the 16th so that doctor will have an idea what is going on before seen. They most likely will contact the gastroenterologist while you are in the ER and get his opinion about whether she should be admitted or what he wants to do. He may want to go ahead and have her admitted to the hospital.
Don't wait. Go ahead and take her to the ER. That's what it's there for. They usually don't want you to go to the ER for chronic issues. You maybe should have taken her to he regular doctor in the last 2 months. But since it's after office hours right now and she is having problems now, just take her to the ER and tell them you were trying to wait till her appt on the 16th but you thought you should bring her in.
Not to be mean but why come to a message board asking a question like that? Don't women have grandmothers, mothers, aunts, sisters, etc to get emergency child rearing questions answered? Blood in stool is an indication of get to the doc asap bust to be safe. Not to also mention the other symptoms.
As for an answer to your question. YES.. take her. When I was a kid my appendix (I think that's how it's spelled) burst and went I to the emergency room. The doctor kept asking my father why he brought me in? Here I was having all kinds of things coming out of any possible open hole on my body.
My father said look at him... Well after the exam and rushed to an operating table the doctor told my father it was good he brought me in cause I would have died. On the initial exam the doctors thought it was just the flu because I wasn't complaining of pain. Hey I played football.. Anyway when things look crazy its best to be safe.

Oh, honey.... take the poor girl to the emergency room pronto. They may do nothing, but you don't know that for sure and you don't know what's going on with her. Blood in her stool and constant vomiting is serious. Take her now.
well not all of us have access to a mother, grandmother, aunts or sisters. do you really want to know that my mother is dead, grandparents have been dead for years, all my aunts are dead and my sister is in jail.. so that pretty much leaves no one.. anyway i took her to the ER and the specialist we were suppose to go see was the one on call, after taking blood and xray we went right over to her office and she consulted with us and in her opinion at this moment its not life threatening and she's scheduled for a endoscopy/colonoscopy this Friday. she's thinking colitis or crohns. so hopefully Friday we will know more.
