I used to play soccer and go for runs, but the impact of jumping, running, and kicking cause temporary pain. Doctors and PTs have told me what exercise I do is entirely up to me, not providing much guidance. Up until this point, with my situation Ive been able to bikeride for cardio without significant or lasting pain (I understand that hunching over is not impactive like running).
Should I refrain from running and jumping altogether?
It's also tough to know with weight-training and exercises whether I'm doing lasting (long-term) damage or not. I avoid exercises that put direct pressure on my lumbar, like weighted squats, deadlifts, and crunches, but even with seated preacher curling I feel a very short pain.
Previously, when I asked my PT and Dr. about what I should and shouldn't do, they really didn't offer much aside from suggesting it's up to me and not pushing things too hard on my body.
I caught the tail-end of an NPR segment on when to push through pain vs. listening to its message, and I feel I need more guidance than the simple message the PT and doctor conveyed.
