Flu shots combine the viruses health organizations predict will be the most probable for the coming flu season.
They have been wrong.
I get them because I'm exposed to either a lot of overseas arrivals and/or construction guys with "issues". Who knows what they're carrying.
One winter years ago I was arthritic all winter long and it seemed to be related to the flu shot.
No issues in other years. I'd get one if I was exposed to students, or high rates of people turnover, and medical may even be required.
It's worked well for me the past years. I used to go without a flu shot and catch a flu once a year. Ever since taking a flu shot early in the season (October), I have been fine.
Probably thank your co-workers for that--since they are getting immunized and not bringing the flu germs into work where you could catch it...
Actually I've worked in a health related field for dozens of years, long before flu shots were the norm. I chalk it up to having been exposed to all manner of things early on and having a good immune system of my own, whether born that way or built up over the years.... My vaccinated co-workers are the ones who DO get sick and come in with their coughing, sneezing, and runny noses!
I've always wondered about this..... does flu shot mean you won't be a 'carrier'?
If so, then no need to wash hands and cover our sneezes? (just kidding.... but really, just wondering about that)
Yes because if you come in contact with someone with the flu and they sneeze on you or whatever, you can still pass it to someone else..it's harder but if they touch your hand after you opened a door that someone sneezed on, they can infect themselves...and it's not just the flu--there are other illnesses out there too
