Hi. I was wondering if anyone else has this issue. Every 6-7 months I get a bout of Angular Cheilitis. It always seems to be on the right corner of my mouth. It seems to be the same thing, make a Dr appointment, get some meds and then it goes away. Does anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions?
Do you get it more during the cold weather??? I have seen this on people and looks painful. A girl I worked with had this and she said it was from sleeping with her mouth open at night.
could be allergic, infective, or due to some other underlying condition (e.g. anaemia).
do you wear dentures? if so, do they fit properly, and do you clean them regularly? do you have any dental problems? dentures & dental problems can be a source for recurrent infections such as those causing angular cheilitis.
do you have any other skin problems elsewhere? angular cheilitis may be a manifestation of a more widespread contact dermatitis
do you know if you have anaemia, or other deficiencies (e.g. vitamin B12)? diabetes? if you are having recurrent infections, your doctor would be well advised to check for these.
I don't have dentrues. I don't have any other skin problems elsewhere except Vililigo, but I've had that for the last 20 years. No, I don't have diabetes, but I will get everything checked.
I had this issue when I had braces. I assumed it was because my facial skin/lips couldn't cover my teeth, so I "drooled" into the corners of my mouth. I had an anti-fungal medication for when it was acting up, but I also used diaper cream at night to prevent it. After I had my braces removed (4 years ago), it periodically showed up (about twice a year). I still wear a bite guard for teeth grinding and a retainer, as well. It hasn't happened in a while now (I actually can't remember the last time). Have you every had orthodontics or worn a bite guard?
I get the condition every once in a while and thought it was the bodies way of reminding me my mustache needs trimming, i usually trim the mustache back and apply moisturizer for a few days and the condition seems to disappear, as it appears females are also getting this condition i guess its not mustache related..
