Hullo All,

I have been an acid reflux sufferer for eight years. I have tried many different medications from OTC ones to prescription meds. I only received some relief. The PPIs have given me odd side effects (extreme thirst, feeling hot, etc.) therefore I can not take them anymore.

My question is, has anybody have minimally invasive surgery to correct acid reflux? If so, how much relief have you had? Any side effects of the surgery, and do you think it was worth it?

The surgery in question for reflux...would most likely be a Hiatal Hernia repair and/or tightening of the Lower Esophageal Sphincter.

Have you been diagnosed with a Hiatal Hernia???

There are a lot of other causes of reflux, best to get diagnosed EXACTLY why you are having reflux.....go to a specialist.

This message board was not my first stop. I have been to specialists, and yes I have a lax lower esophageal sphincter and that is why acid keeps escaping from where it is supposed to stay and coming up my esophagus to my throat. I can no longer take PPIs due to side effects and other meds have minimal positive impact on my symptoms.

My question is specifically for people who has had minimally invasive surgery to fix this problem. I hope the question is clear.

Well, I think that you would have better results if you spelled out EXACTLY what your surgeon/specialist suggested as far as surgery goes.

There are a number of surgical solutions for Reflux.....depending on what is causing it. You are going to have a procedure to tighten your LES???? a fundoplication???? a tightening of the hiatal area???? a hiatal hernia repair??????

Clearly spell out what exactly surgery has been suggested....and ask people how it went for them if they had the same surgery.

Are you overweight? Do you exercise?

Loosing weight and exercising made my acid reflux go away.

The post above me certainly is right about the weight. I once had gerd around 2010, it was horrible... I even had one of those camera down my throat procedure and I took nexium for along time and got scared about the side effects as well.

I started taking digestacure and it did wonders for me. But like texan said... if your overweight, that has alot to do with it. I was 320 and I quickly got down to 280 and bam!
