I thought I preferred male gynecologists, but it turns out it's not a question of male vs. female...some gynecologists are very good doctors and those are the ones I prefer going to. The gynecologist I see right now is a woman, and she's wonderful...very careful, tells you everything she's going to do before she does it, asks if it's okay to do a pelvic exam that day, just makes it feel like a very safe and normal experience. I've also had male gynecologists who were that good.

I am not sure what you mean here. Are you saying the doctor said she couldn't examine you vaginally because you were a virgin? They have different sized speculums, including small ones for children.

The only time I had a rectal exam was when I had a cyst, the doctor said it gives her a different angle to feel.

my daughter had her first gyn exam vaginally when she was still a virgin. I don't understand this at all.

How would you recommend a vaginal exam be done other than vaginally?

Please do not perpetuate the myth that gyn exams take your virginity. That is just silly.

Can't do bimanual exam (finger) through vagina because I'm virgin

We can keep telling the OP to not be embarrassed, nervous, etc. but especially if she's a virgin she likely will be, and that's okay! It probably WILL be uncomfortable - the purpose of a speculum is to kind of "prop" open your vagina so the cervix at the very back can be seen - it doesn't feel great even if you've had sex before, and will be a weird feeling if you have not. So you can try to relax as much as possible and your doctor should be made aware of your situation. Just know that what you're feeling is normal and that it will end up being less of a big deal with later exams.

I think she was referring to the OP's follow up post where she said her doctor chose to examine her rectally since she was a virgin. Which makes no sense.
