After 3 years of never drinking an ounce of alcohol, I am going to the bar alone once a week. This started in May. I dislike the taste of beer, I only order cocktails, mostly top shelf stuff. And good food. I go in telling myself I'm going to have 3-4 cocktails tops, and by the end of the night I've had 8-12 cocktails. I do not drive home drunk. I arrange a taxi, phone a friend, or walk to a nearby hotel and stay there for the night while relaxing with amenities.
Can someone become an alcoholic drinking like this once a week, can any health issues arise?
Edit: WTF there's a red spot in one of my eyes this morning, looks to be something called "subconjunctival hemorrhage". But drinking doesn't cause that does it?

I'll say I have no problem with someone going out and having a good time. Wouldn't be much of a life if we never were naughty, etc. Note I had lots of fun when younger, but cut back as I got older. Either I was smarter when older or my body couldn't handle it as well.
I certainly feel better in the mornings now that I have quit drinking entirely!
Anyway I once helped a person with a DUI by reading him his lessons for court ordered alcohol treatment (he couldn't read very well). And one of the lessons was to not set yourself up to be in a position where you might[will] drive drunk. And that is to NEVER drive your car to a bar. Rather walk or take a taxi/bus there. Then you can't drive home as your car is not there!
Also it pointed out that after drinking, your judgment is poor and you would more likely drive home if your car was there. So best to set up the way you will get home in advance (when your judgment is still good) - don't drive your car to a bar.
Do that and you will have far fewer legal problems with your drinking. Cheers!
I think the fact that you're wondering if you might have a problem is a good sign. Someone suggested trying an AA meeting, that might be a good starting point. You could also ask your doctor about any potential long-term health risks.
