Jomo, I have had friends who do the same and every single one of them eventually became a full time smoker. Please quit now before it happens to you.

And fwiw I am now almost 4 weeks without a cigarette! The Chantix really does work. It took several months and hundreds of dollars but I am done and I am so proud of myself. I smoked for about 25 years and was one of those that nobody thought would ever be able to quit. The best part is that aside from a few minutes a day I don't even miss them or even think about them. And my God does everything taste and smell so much better. I never knew that I liked bell peppers before and am now addicted to them. Being a non smoker is awesome. But I do promise to all of you who do still smoke not to be an obnoxious ex smoker who treats you like crap. I always hated those people and I vow never to become one.

like peanut butter & jelly, ham & cheese, jack & coke. . .smoking & drinking go so well together. i've since quit smoking but on occasion, i will have a drag.

Nice old thread that I missed here. I was the opposite of the OP as I'm a heavy drinker but a light smoker. I've since quit drinking, smoking, and chewing entirely, but I can remember...

When I drank, I could easily smoke a pack or two at the bar without even noticing. But when I wasn't drinking, I'd smoke as the urge came on, but it bothered my throat and lungs a bit more, so I'd smoke no more than about 1/2 a pack when not drinking.

When I chewed tobacco, such as Cope, it was the only real "high" I had left and it was very, very, hard to quit.

I'm very sensitive to the smell of cigarette and cigar smoke and sure don't miss it in restaurants. There were some casinos that had such good air ventillation, that I hardly noticed the smoke, but in Colorado, they've gone smokeless and their revenues have suffered.

Lowered inhibitions.

People who drink also eat more because they don't realize they are full.

Alcohol elimanates nicotine from the body, so you feel like you haven't smoked, so you have another, nicotine is the one chemical in cigarettes that you are most addicted to.

Alcohol eliminates nicotine from the body?

Wow! You're like a doctor or something? Where does alcohol take the nicotine to? Oh, I know! It's like what happens to the worms, right?

Now one night, I free-based a bunch of cocaine while drinking booze and the booze seemed to disappear too. Is that the same thing?

Sorry. So many questions for a newbie here.

There's a positive side to smoking more when you drink.

You can count the butts in the ashtray, divide by 2, and keep up with how many beers you've had.
