Why can't they just cut it open and take the gallstones out, then sew it back up. Everybody wants to take my whole gall bladder out.

I love my gall bladder. It's been in me my whole life, I'm assuming; like my appendix.

The problem just isn't the stones you have now, but the stones you'll develop in the future.

If your gallbladder is creating stones, it will continue to do so after the existing stones are taken out.

When I had my first gall bladder attack it was the worst pain I have ever had. I made an appt. with a surgeon and had one more attack before I had surgery to have my gall bladder removed.

I have known people that had mild attacks but I can tell you if your attacks were like mine were you would want your gall bladder OUT!

There are non-surgical treatments for gallstones that you can try, they aren't always real successful in the long term however, and surgeons don't recommend them.

You can just sit back and wait for another attack, "watchfully waiting" for something that might never come down. Many people have just one attack, and then never another. Of course there is a chance of a sudden incapacitating attack of gall stones at the most inopportune time, but if you are willing to take the chance.

My older brother had a bad attack with a high fever a few years ago and had his out. I haven't had a bad attack like that but am seriously considering just getting it taken out anyway. I still wish I could just have the stones removed, though.

Even a change in diet wont make the stones in there go away.

The problem with the stones is they can cover your bile ducts and cause Jaundice. (that happened to my dad).

have to agree, after my first and worst attack I was desperate for the operation.. this isnt just like cramps.a bad attack mimicks a heart attack.. I could hardly get my words out on the phone for an ambulance and was slumped over the table when they arrived. luckily the door was open as I couldnt move to get to it... the whole thing has to come out and if you were in the same pain as me and others you d be glad to get rid of the horrible thing.
