Cranberry juice is high in oxalates, which is the last thing you want. Strong lemonade is better.
Interesting since my doctor recommended cranberry juice and it sure did the trick for me. Had no problems since. So I guess it depends...
Cranberry and Apple Juice: Apple and cranberry juice contain oxalates, and both have been associated with a higher risk for calcium oxalate stones. Cranberry juice has properties that may increase the risk for both calcium oxalate and uric acid stones. On the other hand, cranberry juice helps prevent urinary tract infections and so may be helpful for reducing the risk for struvite and brushte stones Kidney Stones*Prevention - Kidney Stones Health Information - NY Times Health
Yesterday they showed a new procedure on TV. It was developed by a Portuguese university and allows for the removal of kidney stones in just one minute and without the use of radiation.
It's important to see a good urologist. After years of having recurring UTI's (urinary tract infections) my new internist referred me to a urologist. Tests showed a large kidney stone
lodged in one kidney. Tests included a pelvic ultrasound, KUB (kidney, ureter, bladder x-ray), and eventually renal ultrasounds/scans. In my case, a lithotripsy procedure was performed to break up the stone (sometimes medication is prescribed to break up a stone instead, depending on the individual case). Because scar tissue had developed in the ureter/kidney junction, surgery (pyloplasty) was performed to remove the blocked section of ureter and insert a temporary stent. I have had no problems since that time (June 2014).
