Hello. I was recently put on 10Mg of Ambien to help me sleep. This last year I have had dreams nightly. Nothing scary, but "real life situation dreams". I feel as if my brain works through them when I should be sleeping. I remember these dreams the next morning, and its annoying. Anyway, Ambien seemed to help first two weeks, or so, and now it does not. I take Ambien "as needed", which feels like every night. When I skip nights, I feel wired and can't get to sleep. I lay there until 2-3 in the morning.
Has anyone experienced this wit Ambien? I have a follow up appointment with my Dr. next week, but I just wanted to ask.
Stop the Ambien. Well known that it causes psychosis. The docs love it because it is not a benzo. Benzos are actually OK if used correctly and do not cause the psychosis seen with Ambien. Ask for trazodone 50mg taken at hour of sleep. Occasionally take temazepam 15mg to 30mg at bedtime. Only take sleep aids when it is critical that you need to sleep. Insomnia has not been proven to be harmful. Use the sleep aids to pick your restful nights and plan your insomnia nights. Sleep aids used nightly will not be effective so plan on regular drug free insomnia nights every week. Work as well on good sleep hygiene and take naps whenever possible.
