Has anyone ever gotten this? About a week ago i woke up to a group of spots in my right eye. They have blotched my vision. I went to the opthamologist and my retina and eye are fine. He said it would just go away. This may be a series of floaters or one big one, but it is driving me crazy. If I close my eye, the affected area shows as a bright spot. As I open, they become a cloudy area, almost blotchy andf it grays out the vision. Any ideas on this? Thanks
Yes, I first had this happen about 20 years ago. Really scared me. I thought I had damaged my eye. Went to see an Opthamologist and he said they are "floaters" and that they may or may not go away. I still have them! I've just learned to deal with them. It still bothers me though. You may want to get a second opinion because your eyes are not something to play around with!! I haven't had the problem with my eyes closed!

Thanks...yea, i am getting the feeling they are here to stay. I always thought floaters were black specks or streaks..these are more like areas of blockage. i am going to get a second opinion but i have a feeling it is what it is as they say. As for my eyes closed its not a problem, I just notice the blocked area lights up.

There is a substance inside your eye called vitreous. Sometimes this vitreous separates and "floaters" start dancing around. You may see lights flashing when you bend down and come back up or make a sudden move with you head. They are usually not dangerous UNLESS you see a curtain coming down on the side, or you lose vision completely, suddenly.
I was thinking if it could be a pterygium? Or several? Is the spot near the pupil?
But you say you saw the ophthalmologist and that the retina is OK and I'm sure he would have known a pterygium from a floater.
If you saw a general ophthalmologist, try to find a retina specialist - just in case.

Thanks all. I am going to see a retina specialist. I think its just floaters, but they are quite numerous and I just need to make sure.

Just an fyi...its not a pteryguim. The spots are not on my eye, its in my vision.
Um, have I had eye spots, sigh, ... yes. (Incidentally, vpcats, yes, I also had the curtain descending, more of that anon).
On the one hand, I have a lot of floaters. They are most noticeable when I am reading in good light. They may be occurring other times, but they are most noticeable under these circumstances.
I also once had "blurry orbs" that broke out in my eyes, preventing me from seeing. It was a hot day and I was outside at a birthday party. I presumed it was an atypical migraine (at the time, this would have been my 2nd). Like I said, they were these circles, each one blurry. So I wasn't completely blind, I just couldn't see through the blurry patches.
Then at another time, I had the curtain, etc., and ended up with intraretinal bleeding. But again, that really didn't take the form of eye spots.
My father had a retinal detachment, so I probably get my bad eye genes from him.

I heard from if you have areas of blockage like that, that it's the first signs of glaucoma. I say get a second, a third and a 4th opinion.
A floater is a black spot. I have one of those in my left eye.
It comes and goes. Mostly these days, it's gone. It comes back once in awhile, versus having it daily before. I have to figure out what I am doing differently. It could be related to food, as a lot of things that ail people these days are what they are eating or smoking.
I have had floaters since high school, and I got more as I aged. Maybe some have gone away; I don't know, but they do block my vision if I star at them. I just try to ignore them, and I have noticed that sunglasses make them less noticable. You do get used to them. I don't have glaucoma, so it isn't a sign of that. I have been told that if I get more to always go to the eye doctor.
