I has two co-workers who started having problems with stomach and had to cut the habit. Whatever the cause they just couldn't eat the anymore. Both had eaten hot peppers in food since they were young. Have a friend who has eaten two raw peppers with lunch for decades and is 76 with no problems.

It's normally healthy....lots of Vit. C in peppers...but only if it doesn't cause you distress! I don't mind spicy, but I don't want it to hurt!!

My sweetie (from Mexico) grew up eating hot chilis, salsas, etc. He now suffers from gastritis and has had to give them up. A few of his relatives also have this same stomach ailment. As with anything, moderation.

On the contrary, hot and spicy foods are very good for you, as long as you are not overly sensitive to them. If it hurts, give it up!

Maybe if your family has been eating that way for hundreds of years you will have developed a genetic tolerance for spicy foods. I'm just guessing here. Most people I know get sick from eating spicy foods. Personally, I would rather taste a food rather than get burned and hurt by it. There are so many other flavors than BURN.

I don't know hardly anyone that gets sick form eating spicy. But I live in California the land of exotic and spicy. I eat foods prepared by people's from all over the world. Almost all have their own version of hot and spicy. I've grown up eating hot and spicy and it doesn't bother me.

Doctor said it adds an extra layer of protection to my already robust immune system

My kids have been eating hot a spicy like I did growing up. Again it's mostly cultural.

I put sriracha on lasagna and spaghetti so my opinion my be a little skewed.

Just a bunch of hogwash, IMO. Capsaiscin is proven to have a ton of health benefits with few, if any, downsides.

If you already have digestive problems, like an ulcer, eating certain foods might inflame it. But I don't think spicy food alone will cause a healthy person any problems.

Correlation isn't causation. They may very well have gotten those health issues even if they ate a bland diet their entire lives.
