The Truth About Saturated Fat - Articles

It is just as I have always thought, and is the reason why I eat and bake with butter to this very day:
Quote:
Humans have eaten animal products for most of their existence on earth and therefore, they have consumed saturated fats for most of that time. If saturated fats were of no value or were harmful to you, why would breast milk produce saturated fats like butyric, caproic, caprylic, capric, lauric, myristic, palmitic and stearic acids, which provide a naturally perfected source of nourishment to ensure the growth, development and survival of your infants?

Saturated fats are also:

The preferred fuel for your heart, and also used as a source of fuel during energy expenditure
Useful antiviral agents (caprylic acid)
Effective as an anticaries, antiplaque and anti fungal agents (lauric acid)
Useful to actually lower cholesterol levels (palmitic and stearic acids)
Modulators of genetic regulation and prevent cancer (butyric acid)

From the American Hart Association:

"Saturated fat
Saturated fat is the main dietary cause of high blood cholesterol. Saturated fat is found mostly in foods from animals and some plants. Foods from animals include beef, beef fat, veal, lamb, pork, lard, poultry fat, butter, cream, milk, cheeses and other dairy products made from whole and 2 percent milk. All of these foods also contain dietary cholesterol. Foods from plants that contain saturated fat include coconut, coconut oil, palm oil and palm kernel oil (often called tropical oils), and cocoa butter."

The body produces a lot of the fatty acids it NEEDS. Breast milk provides the infant with the necessary nutrients and supplements, made ready to order in just the right amounts.

The problem with saturated fats is that people tend to continue the misuses of them, thus introducing themselves to heart and peripheral vascular problems. Although a limited quantity may be useful, in excess, they are harmful

I have quit using man made margarine and replaced it with butter. It is when you get into the man made stuff that you have a problem. I remember my grandmother put butter in everything she cooked and loaded up her bread with it. She also saved all her bacon grease and use to dip her biscuit in it and ate that for breakfast every morning and did that almost all her life. She had fried chicken (cooked in real lard) every Sunday. She lived to be in her 80's or 90's and never had any heart problems.

What gets me is back in the 80's, I had a dietician tell me to stay away from Hydrogenated Oils. She told me to read the lables and look for the word "Hydrogenated", if it was there AVOID that food. They knew that long ago that it was bad but kept it quiet and continued to let it be used in the foods we eat. When all this started, they would make "fat free" foods that had Hydrogenated Oils in it and it was ALLOWED! It really makes me wonder if this problem was created to get us where we are today.

I have never doubted we are their test subjects for everything new they come up with. I no longer buy into the "new and improved" scam of their latest creations for us. This whole high cholesterol business is just that.... a BUSINESS to make money for a select few.

In December, USA Today had the Lipitor ad, a full page and a half ad. In their own ad they said in their study, the placebo group had a 3% heart attack rate. The group on Lipitor had a 2% heart attack rate. I caught that immediately!! You only have a 1% edge over the people who do not take man made chemicals with serious side effects for a lot of people and some side effects KILL you! (They failed to mention those numbers in their ad) I had to laugh and what a joke is being played on us and there they had it in full print for the world to see! The stuff is advertised to PREVENT heart attacks, making one think if you take it you will never have a heart attack and here they are saying that just is not so in their own ad.

Also, on the news in December, they made the announcement that Omega 3 Fish Oil HAS BEEN PROVEN to prevent heart attacks. So, you can buy expensive man made chemical drugs that have side effects and have only a 1% chance over those taking nothing OR, you can take something nature provided that is cheap, with no side effects with the knolage that it will safely give you the desired result. They also announced that Omega 3 prevents Alzheimers..... statin drugs causes Alzheimers like symptoms in some who take it. Add it up, it's a no brainer for me!

I feel the same about saturated fats, I eat butter from grass-fed cows, I eat meat from grass fed cows, I use virgin coconut oil all the time. I think that saturated fat had gotten a lot of unfair press, a lot of it to promote cheap polyunsaturated fats and cheap vegetable oils.
To me, what American Heart Association is not an authority, they are not successful in keeping American's hearts healthy, in fact, heart disease is one of the most common health problems in America.
Those French people eat butter and meat all the time, they don't shy away from sat.fats at all, yet their hearts are much healthier. I think it's the better quality of their food and smaller portions what makes a difference between them and us.

Excellent post Jessaka as i wholely agree and i'm a 40 y/o bodybuilder so i want the best nutrition for my body and my health. I worry more about the unstable and easily oxidizing oils and fats like the polyunsaturates (except the omega-3's) as they oxidize easy in the body where as the Saturated fats are stable. I do believe a even balance of Saturated and Monounsaturated fats are fine for the body.

I love Coconut oil, Olive oil and Fish Oil as these give me the best of all 3 types of fatty acids.

I agree. There is a world of difference in the Omega 3 and 6 fats in pasture raised cattle, vs. industrial methods which rarely let daily cows out of their factory buildings to eat something other than corn.

Sadly, there are few small farms left that raise our food the natural way.

Now, it is clear that there is some association between fat and heart disease. The problem lies in the fact that most studies make no effort to differentiate between saturated fat and trans fat. I believe this is the missing link.

From the same article, it seems that this doctor disagrees with saturated fat causing problems.Trans fats is where the danger lies. Raw coconut oil actually is good for you.

Quote:
If researchers were to more carefully evaluate the risks of heart disease by measuring the levels of trans and saturated fat, I believe they would find a completely different story.

Trans fat is known to increase your LDL levels, or "bad" cholesterol, while lowering your levels of HDL, known as "good" cholesterol, which, of course is the complete opposite of what you need in order to maintain good heart health. It can also cause major clogging of arteries, type 2 diabetes and other serious health problems.

I began studying nutrition when I was 21 and have studied it every since. I am 65 now. I read about this and so I stopped using anything that was hydrogenated. And yet these products are still in our foods.

I think this is most important. Thanks so much for posting it. Reminds me how the doctors tried to get me on Fosamax for my bones, and I refused. I asked how much would I gain in bones, and they said 5%. I said," each year." "No, in total." I refused it not just for that reason, but because I felt that the drug was dangerous. Now they are finding out that it is dangerous.

So true. You can get good butter at a health food store. Cost more but is better. You probably know that. I get mine from an Amish place, and it is even better. Not sure why, but I haven't asked yet.

Big Pharma wants to keep us in the dark, and Mod cutjust like the mushrooms they think we are! They lie, and they steal our health with their agenda to make money off every sick person they have made because of their lies. Just plain sickens me.....Go butter eaters...Go meat eaters...you will live, and those who follow the "recommended diet" will die...pure and simple!!!!

It can be a helpful tool.
