If you didn't have the problem before taking Ambien, then it's most likely the Ambien.
Skin rashes/disturbances is one of the side effects according to the multiple pages of side effects, etc that comes with that drug.

Could be a lot of things, but you stated nothing new except the Ambien.

Try going without your usual deodorant. Try a different laundry detergent. Those would be my first thoughts.

I had the samething happen to me so I changed deodorants which I had used for years and my arm pit stopped hurting. I went with the Arm and hammer deodorant.

I have had sore armpits for several weeks. New dermotogist prescribed Desonide (cortisone ointment) to be rubbed on the site. Pain cured after 2-3 days, but comes back after a few weeks of blessed relief. So back to the Desonide. It is a form of exzema.

What kind of bumps? You could have a mild case of shingles. I've had it before - not fun. My symptoms were burning/achy feeling in and around my armpit and a few days later bumps would appear. The tell tale sign it was shingles is that the bumps often appear to be linear and most likely associated to one side of the body. People usually over the age of 60 develop them, but anyone who has had chicken pox is at risk. I'm 24, and had them just last year b/c my immune system was down due to stress/fatigue.

A rash isn't a "side effect" of Ambien. It's a symptom of an allergic reaction to Ambien. It isn't the Ambien that would cause the rash. It's the allergy that would cause the rash. Also, it isn't likely he's experiencing an allergic reaction, because allergic rashes to ingested substances typically don't show up *only* on an armpit, and nowhere else. If he was rubbing the ambien on his armpit and was allergic, that would make sense. However, I'm pretty doubtful that he's doing that. So no.

If he's sleeping now, and hadn't been previously, it could be that his sleeping position is causing the rash.
