Many people have "white coat syndrome", their BP is higher when they go to the Dr than at any other time. Many nurses do not know the proper way to check it either. You need to have been at rest for 10 minutes. And your arm needs to be supported and not hanging down.

I know I do when I go to my orthodetist and I really like him. Finally, when I went for my first check up last week after knee replacement it was only 152 over 75. This is much higher than normal for me, but low, compared to what I usually have when I see him. Maybe it was a little lower cause I knew I wasn't facing knee replacement again.

Ask your doctor. I was a bit elevated for a few years, in my late 40's, and my doctor put me on a cheap blood pressure medicine that I have been taking ever since. I was reluctant to believe that I needed to be on a medication at that age, but I knew that strokes run in my family.
Bottom line, it is cheap and effective, so why not? Just do it.
