Every once in a while, when I really need a good night's sleep, I take some Nyquil and a couple of beers. Weird dreams, but I sleep the sleep of the dead !

About a little 1/4 teaspoon of a sativa, into a pipe, and a bit later its nighttime.

You probably should go that route because a large percentage of OTC "sleep" medicines are just repackaged, more expensive varieties of Benadryl (dipenhydramine). And generic Benadryl works just as well as the brand name.

Unisom (because melatonin did nothing for me). Turns out I'm a crazy narcoleptic so now I get something that always works - Xyrem.

Natrol - it's a melatonin and L-Theanine combo. I'm a lifelong insomniac (my brain has trouble shutting down!) and next to Benadryl, it's the best OTC med I've found. You can google L-Theanine (extracted from plants/tea/mushrooms). I take a pretty low dose and it knocks me out in about 20 minutes as long as I'm lying in bed with the lights dim and reading.

Amazon.com: Natrol Advanced Melatonin Plus Sleep Aid, Strawberry, Fast Dissolve Tablets, 60 Count: Health & Personal Care

L-Theanine Uses, Benefits & Side Effects - Drugs.com Herbal Database

Careful with the Tylenol sleep aids. It's terrible on your liver and kidneys.

Hope this helps.

I take Benedryl from time to time although I have found I generally really regret it in the morning. I hate that hang-over feeling that Benedryl gives me.

Those aren't OTC.

Natural Calm - it's a powdered magnesium supplement. It tastes like a fizzy raspberry/lemonade drink when mixed with water. The statement below is from the website (so take it with a grain of salt) but I find it works for me:

According to the makers of Natural Calm, magnesium deficiency can result in symptoms such as: stress, low energy, muscle tension, muscle spasms and cramps, headaches, insomnia, fatigue and weakness, abnormal heart rhythms, hormonal imbalances, weakening bones, constipation, anxiety, and irritability.
