Has anyone found an alternative to ibuprofen or naproxen sodium for SEVERE mentstrual cramps?

Please only answer from personal experience!

NSAIDS are hard on my stomach, I've been through it with my doctor, now I'm open to any suggestions, even herbal.

My Mom died from a GI bleed due to advil......I don't take my stomach pain from advil lightly.

Do not need info on treatments or diagnosis, like I said I am working on that with my doctor. Just looking for a treatment that works to lessen the pain until my doctor and I come up with a solution.

Again, please answer only from PERSONAL experience (sorry guys that rules you out!) from someone who has also had severe cramps.

Thanks.

Heat and compression are supposed to help. I know a few women who wear corsets (lace up style), but spanx or other support garments would probably also help.

You can drink peppermint oil in a little water. Great for nausea. Don't know about cramps.

Try tylenol. If that does not work, percocet (but you are risking addiction if you use too much)?
In theory, birth control pills should also help.

Have you been checked for fibroids? My cramps were terrible with fibroids, had it (it was a big one!) removed and later an ablation - cramps are not gone but much better.

There is also a menstrual comfort cream made by Emerita. Menstrual Comfort Cream

I've found DHA for women (specifically this one) to be really helpful! It has blue cohosh in it, vitamin e, chaste berry extract, etc, and it's really helped me out. Also, the DHA bit helps balance my crazy hormones so my PMS isn't as bad, either. Really helped make everything manageable. I get really bad cramps and they used to be so bad (before I went on and off the pill) that I'd vomit and my sisters used to pass out. Not to mention I just get the strangest symptoms which were surely hormone related.

I had to do something for mine because my blood/iron levels were so low they were going to give me a blood transfusion.

I also second compression. I've pressed down on my lower stomach (where the womb is) and just held it and that's helped. Heat up rice in a pillowcase, too, for a makeshift heating pad!

Which specific product are you talking about? Can you share a link? I'm interested!

Sure! I'm sorry, I also misspelled. It's *DHEA. I get the Country Life brand, "Dhea for Women." I will say I do not suggest taking it (at least when you start) while on your period as I definitely noticed some oddities, but my subsequent periods were sooo much better. I felt normal for once. !

I also do not take it every day as there's no real need (for me), but if you do decide to use it, you'll see for yourself what works for you. My sister takes 2 pills (she's older than 30) and I take one, when I do take it.
