How do people relegated to dialysis 3X a week go on vacation or is a vacation something that is no longer possible?

It's totally possible! Ask your dialysis center to set up times in the city you'll be vacationing in. They will set it up for you. If you do home dialysis, it's even easier...you just take your machine with you!

So...yes..you can still vacation. Is it a hassle? Sure...but so is dialysis in your home city....it's something you just have to do!

Theres also the problem of cost, here in Canada the healthcare system pays for it, 3 weeks to a month in the USA could become quite costly if i have to pay out of pocket. What is the cost in the USA of one dialysis treatment? A wild guess would have me putting it somewhere around $300-$500, 3X a week for a month and any vacation would be out of my price range.

I think it's higher than that per treatment. Once a person in the US goes on dialysis, they become eligible for Medicare...no one could afford to do dialysis...it's VERY costly...

I don't know how it works if you are "out of country"....that could be tricky! I would ask your doctor or dialysis center...I'm sure they've done this sort of thing before.

If you are cruising, there is a company called "Dialysis at Sea"...they help with the supplies needed to do dialysis while on a ship!

Dialysis-at-sea cruises available, some insurances pay, have social worker at clinic help you look into.
You could change your modality to peritoneal or "home hemo" which would give you control of when and where you give yourself treatment.
