Does anyone using a CPAP machine notice a red dye leaching from the water chamber after a few months? This has happed to the third smokey colored chamber now and I don't know whether it is safe to use.

I asked the FDA and only got a nice thank you email without discussing the issue. My doctor claims no one else that he knows of has noticed the dye build up in the corners of the chamber but said he would talk to the sales rep., no response after that. We also took it to the company who sold us the machine and were summarily dismissed without even a glance. The chamber is washed daily with Palmolive antibacterial so I don't believe the bright red is anything but dye. I have read that hospitals are now using only clear plastic in their medical devices

Has anyone else noticed the dye leaching?

Sounds like rust! Should be under warranty until replacement time.

The water chamber is plastic so I don't know where the rust would come from. We are using distilled water.

Heidi,
I am seeing the same issue. I have seen it with muliple water reservoirs and am using distilled water.
I have to wipe it out with tissue which is stained red.
From what I read it appears to be Ferric Iron in the water.

It's not rust...it's just whatever chemicals are in your local water. Clean the chamber! Wipe it out. It won't hurt anything, but you should clean it.

Clean the chamber with 10/1 mix of bleach to water and rinse well. Some molds are red in color and all mold needs is dirt and water to grow.
