So John1960...it may be a losing battle trying to replace your lost potassium from all the diet drinks you're drinking...any way you can taper off those? There are other negative health effects from those drinks...you know that, right?
No , not really a good idea. It can mess with the function of your heart. If you don't know what you are doing and self medicate with potassium you run the risk of arrhythmia and heart attack. Don't take pills.
What you can do safely is eat foods high in potassium like watermelon bananas and others. Generally that will solve problems like cramps without the heart risk.
I take a diuretic for edema and have to take potassium with it because the diuretic can deplete the potassium.

, 40mg of Furosemide for the edema and a doctor prescribed potassium pill called Jampk600mg. Blood tests every 2 months to make sure i'm not having adverse reactions.
Not to bicker, but why drink Gatorade, which has 35 -90 mg of potassium per serving, or take an OTC potassium pill with 99 mg of potassium, when you can eat one baked potato (and skin) that has 946 mg of potassium -- along with some other fine nutrients?
Note, that's a medium sized baked whole potato, not a serving of french fried potatoes.
It's always better to eat whole foods like potatoes and bananas and oranges rather than made-up processed foods like Gator Ade...

Well sure, a balanced diet with potassium-rich food is a good approach, but the OP was saying he drinks a lot of diet drinks- I assume he means diet soda or similar. So Gatorade would be a good replacement.

Not really a good, nor a healthy replacement, most formulations of GatorAde have 29 grams of sugar and only 1% of RDA for potassium..not a healthy choice--it's pricey sugar water...poster would be better off drinking plain water with a squeeze of orange or lemon or lime...

I think it is a good idea to take magnesium supplements but your doctor recommended the least absorbable form of magnesium. Instead of magnesium oxide forms of magnesium in dietary supplements that are more easily absorbed by the body are magnesium aspartate, magnesium citrate, magnesium lactate, and magnesium chloride. Magnesium citrate can cause diarrhea.
I love watermelon but I cann't eat to much becuase of Diabetes. Diet drinks have ended and now drinking cold ice water instead. I've lost a ton of weight because of diet drinks and went from 225 pounds to 160 now. Tried to cut out all sugar in my diet.
