Sleep apnea is often caused by a large tongue combined with a small throat.
Now, you can only snore when laying flat on your back, allowing your tongue to fall back and block your airway. So, a quick fix is to sleep on your side or turn your head to the side when snoring.
Other things like avoiding exhaustion, clearing sinuses, losing excess weight, and some more esoteric stuff will help too. But, those will take some real time to really sort out.
I agree with those that said a CPAP might not be as bad as you think. I got used to mine very quickly and have used it every single night for almost five years now. It's made a huge difference in my quality of life.
Surgery is a much riskier solution and is much less likely to succeed. You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain by getting a sleep study done and trying the CPAP first. Explore all options before resorting to surgery!
My Snorerx is proving to be difficult.. it's quite uncomfortable and throws off my 'bite' in the morning, making chewing awkward for awhile. I'm also concerned that some kind of TMJ may be in my future.
