For the past year or so I've been thinking of getting implantable contact lenses, specifically Visian lenses. I've visited their webpage so I'm now familiar with the procedures and the benefits and risks but I was wondering if anyone had any personal experience with Visian or any other implantable contact lenses. What was the exact cost and was it worth it? I've read the costs anywhere from $6000-$12,000 for both eyes. The reason I want to get this surgery is because I have really bad vision and if I somehow lost my contacts or glasses I wouldn't be able to see hardly anything. While it is partly for convenience it's mostly for security and peace of mind.
I had Toric lenses implanted. The cost for the 2 eyes was $2800.00 plus about $400.00 for the various eye drops you need. Insurance does not cover this procedure. Best investment I ever made. Contact Lenses for Astigmatism - Toric, GP and Hybrid Lenses

I wish I could spend $2800 on implantable contact lenses that would make my vision perfect but I don't have astigmatism, I have myopia.
Would this be the same as the ocular implants patients with cataracts get.
Have you given any thought to the Lasik procedure for correcting vision?
I think it's similar, except instead of removing your natural lens and replacing it with an artificial one, the contact lens is placed in front of your natural lens. In other words it complements your natural lens instead of replacing it. I tried to get the LASIK procedure done several years ago but was told I wasn't a good candidate due to thin corneas. Needless to say I was highly disappointed, especially since my natural vision is very poor. My contacts prescription is a -7.00.
