A Physician made terrible mistakes with my husband's Medical Care, almost killing him. What alternatives are there to malpractice suit (which is too expensive) to file complaints against this Physician? AMA? Anything else?

The AMA does not get involved with issues of care of individual patients.

What "terrible mistakes" were made?

"Almost killing" him is very different from actually killing him or causing a long-term disability or excessive pain and suffering. Tell us what the damage is, consequent to the malpractice.

If you lawyer thinks he can win a malpractice case, you will not need to pay up front. If he does not think he can win the case, you have no case. .

If there is no adjudicated malpractice, there is nothing anybody will do to punish or sanction him.

Do you want recovery of damages, or to just punish the doctor?

You can file a complaint with the state medical licensing board. They will investigate, and if the facts warrant, they can take action against the doctor's license.

And yes, medical malpractice cases are usually taken on contingency. But the lawyers have to spend thousands and thousands of dollars up front, so they will not take cases that they don't think they can win. They will have to have experts review your husband's medical records to determine whether the doctor was negligent.

Sometimes even though the doctor makes no mistakes, bad things happen to patients. Most negative outcomes are not the result of doctor error.
