My doctor submits all prescriptions electronically now. She says the security paper to print prescriptions costs her 50 cents a sheet.

I like it. By the time I get to the pharmacy, the medication is ready for me. No waiting, no standing in the prescription drop off line and then later in the pick up line.

I do understand the security concerns, and there is less chance of error. Some doctors have terrible hand writing; electronically submitted prescriptions eliminate that problem.

Where we live we have to have a paper prescription to hand to the pharmacy for any narcotic, electronic transmission is not allowed.

A doctor attempted that for my child recently, after a procedure. Pharmacy would not accept it for narcotic pain medications.

I can't remember the last time I saw an actual paper prescription for anything--which is good because their handwriting is usually illegible.

it never made sense to me that the DEA prohibited electronic submission for pain meds.

My doc, here in Texas, has been doing it for at least 4 years.
