My husband is 68 and has mild Dementia. He has had a severe rotator cuff injury years ago. Now it is to the point of needing a total reversal of the shoulder joint. He has been on pain meds for about 6 years but I was wanting to know if anyone suffering from this sort of thing has ever gotten relief from acupuncture and was able to get off pain meds ? Thank you
Do you mean replacement? I don't know "total reversal". Personally I would do all to avoid surgery. I live with a mess from hip replacement. I know PRP injections can help if you can find a PRP provider in your area. Or at least a consult. Acupuncture can help but one has to stay with it.
I deal with two shoulder injuries and do my stretches and did get 3 yrs of relief with Prolotherapy injections on right shoulder. I use ibuprofen and topical creams/oils.
I was always skeptical however i came down with something called 6th cranial nerve palsy Doctors said they could do nothing so as the condition was affecting all aspects of my life related to vision a friend suggested i go see an acupuncturist, 5 treatments and a month later i was back to normal so i guess it works for some.
I'd say give it a try what do you have to lose?
Yes, total replacement reversal of the shoulder. They just reverse the ball and socket joint. I hadn't heard of it either till his ortho doc told us about it. I googled it.
I had a bad rotator cuff injury that was causing me enormous pain. I did not see a regular doctor for it. I went for acupuncture and within 6 weeks I was pain free. I do still have mild irritation in that area and must be careful how I work out, but overall acupuncture helped me not only deal with pain but to heal naturally.
I've done acupuncture for years off and on. But in order for it to work one needs to stick with it. Not once a week or once a month etc. Many go for 2-3 times a week in the beginning of treatment, but many like myself cannot afford that way. So, what I've decided to do NOW is self acupuncture. There are books, youtubes and sites on HOW TO work on oneself. My primary area will be my right knee and my shoulders and feet. I'll go slowly and learn to insert the needles but I do remember how to do them from the treatments I've had. I've ordered needles and have talked to others who do this at home. I am doing all I can to avoid surgery and to keep walking.
I've had acupuncture while I had a pinched nerve between my shoulders. It did provide some relief, but it was basically being used to reduce muscle tension. It can be effective for some people.
Good news..did my first self acupuncture on my knee. 5 needles around the knee, easy in and out and kept them in for 30 minutes. I'll probably do this every day for a while to get blood moving.
