I am having a problem with loose bowels. Any ideas of how to stop this. I am not having any luck with using anti-diarrhea meds over the counter stuff. Maybe there is something that would work so I can get about my regular activities. Thanks for your comments.

First thing: see your doctor. There are so many possible causes.

What are you doing to cause these loose bowels. There has to be reasons. Meds or what foods etc.?

Eating rice and applesauce (not apple juice) can help firm up your stool if you've got a stomach flu.

Since the OTC stuff didn't help at all, it sounds like you should see your doctor if it goes on very long. Sometimes you can get something like dysentery that has to be treated with prescription meds. Make sure you stay hydrated too.

Try a couple of tablespoons of yogurt a day. I agree go to the doctor. It could be Crohns or Celiac or something else. If they can't resolve it insist on a colonoscopy even if you are young.

Try taking a probiotic. It has worked for me in the past. A doctor (md) I went to in the past also recommended it.

Rice, bread, popped corn, fruits with a lot of fibre (like apples) can all help. But if this is a persistent problem, it's best to see a doctor. It could be any of a number of digestive system issues that could be causing the problem.

I was addicted to Pepsi for many years. As soon as I stopped drinking Pepsi I did not have the problems with the runs. I still drink soda; just not Pepsi.

Just take a good hard look at your diet and see if there are some changes that you could make to narrow down potential problems.

Chewable fiber tablets like Citrucell (may be mispelled) work just as well for loose stools as it does for constipation. If urgent "trots" are one of your problems, the fiber would at least give you more time to hit the john.
