My coworker is taking a week off because her daughter is having a 4 hour operation for a bleeding ulcer? She said she was so sick she had to stop her dancing, was skinny and pale as a ghost. Couching up blood. That doesn't sound like and ulcer to me?

It could be. Ulcers that have eroded the stomach wall may need to be removed surgically. Why are you asking? You think she's trying to fake something?

Makes perfect sense. Sometimes all you can do with a nonhealing ulcer is cut it out.

Sounds exactly like a bleeding ulcer to me. But, then, I'm not a doctor like you apparently are.

Then tell the surgeon whether you prefer highly-selective vagotomy, truncal vagotomy with gastric drainage, or partial gastrectomy.

She is probably thankful that it is only an ulcer with those symptoms.
