Hello. i am writing this on behalf on my dad. He will wake up in the morning and have a bm. He then starts to sweat very badly and feels as if he will throw up. He starts to dry heave pretty badly. It won't go away on its own so he'll go into the ER, get sedated, wake up an hour or so later and feel normal. It usually happened once a year but has now occured twice in three days (never before). Years ago, he had hemorrhoid surgery and believes the surgeon might have nicked his vagus nerve, causing this to get much worse. The vagus nerve idea was first brought to him by his gi doctor. He has another appointment to see him soon.

I know this may be a long shot but has anyone here ever heard of anything like this? It does not seem to be food related at all. He had an ultrsound on his gallbladder and everything came back fine. It only seems to be in the morning when using the bathroom, never at any other point, just in the morning. He takes stool softeners, as well.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Is it bowel issues? or dry heaves? I'm a bit confused. Has he had lab/blood work done? Those will usually indicate any problems if they are major. Does/Has he smoked cigarettes? It may be respiratory. Too many possibilities, not enough information to tell.

Look up Cyclic Vomiting syndrome.
I have it and it sounds like that's what it is. Some people it happens frequently some, like me, once a year etc. Having happen in the early morning hours is also a big sign. Also especially going to the ER and sleep stopping the episode it's spot on. Best medication for it to prevent future episodes is Aimptitriplyne.
