The left toe area only seem to numb out when I lay down and when I roll over on my left side it goes numb right away.
It doesn't bother me when I get up and start moving around.
I've had gout in every joint of both feet but never experienced any numbness or tingling.
What you describe sounds more like a pinched/compressed nerve. The nerve doesnt have to be in your foot -- it can be in your neck or upper back or anywhere else. I have the same thing when my shoulder gets into a certain position.
Could be Peripheral neuropathy a disorder of the nerves that can cause pain and numbness in the hands and feet. As said above possibly pinched nerve. If it continues see a doc, could lead to serious condition later on.

I had the same issue a few toes were tingling dumbness on one foot doctor said it wasn't Peripheral neuropathy because it would be the same on both feet not one part of one foot. Turned out I was wearing my shoes too long got a new pair and it went away. I used to wear my tennis shoes until the bottoms were worn flat figured I get my money worth but found that was a bad idea because the shoe was actually worn out so bad it had no support. My foot felt better after 2 days in the new shoes. The doctor went ahead and did do diabetes test and found my A1C was little elevated 6.1 but my fasting sugar was normal. I dropped some weight and A1c is now 5.3. It's good idea to get your sugar levels checked A1c and fasting just to make sure especially if type 2 runs in your family.
