I admit that I use q tips quite a bit. Anyway a few days ago I realized my left ear feels kind of full and a small loss of hearing. I plan to go to the dr and get both ears flushed just to make sure.
NEVER put Q-tips in your ear! You can use them on the OUTSIDE of the ear, but don't go into the ear canal....all you're doing is pushing the wax in, like you would if you were loading an old-timey musket!!! Ears are pretty much "self-cleaning"...the wax migrates OUT of the canal on it's own, if you aren't packing it in there!
Drop a little hydrogen peroxide in your ear and let it set about 5 mins. You will hear the peroxide bubbling in your ear. When the bubbling stops, drain the liquid out of your ear. Doctor recommended and it works.
I had ear blocked before the doc gave me ear drops , yes after sometime the wax emerged by itself and hearing came back clear. I second don't use q tip to dig your ear it only pushes wax inwards further.
If you're having a loss of hearing, I'd strongly recommend having your doctor check to make sure there isn't a hole in your eardrum. I just found out there's a hole in mine, which explains why my hearing has been muffled lately.

That works for most folks. Or else buy the commercial product made specifically for clearing wax. No Q-tips.
Dad had a terrible cerumen problem that even H2O2 or commercial solutions would resolve, and had to go to a specialist once a year. But he knew enough NEVER to use Q-tips. Used to say, "Never put anything in your ear smaller than an elbow."
I've had my ears irrigated in my doctor's office. They use a large syringe filled with warm water mixed with hydrogen peroxide, which makes it fizz and foam a bit.
It's better to use the OTC ear drops to keep the ear wax from getting that hard and impacted. I've used them myself when it was a 3 day holiday weekend, and by the time the Dr was open, the ear wax was gone.
Just self corrected this problem this morning. I caused the wax blockage while trying to rinse out something from my eye.
First I tried one of those ear wax cleaning kits with no success. I went to Walmart and got an Aculife ear wax syringe(2.88). Put warm water and little bit of peroxide into a bowl. After several blasts, the wax clog came out.
I've been to urgent care twice for this and they do it the same way.
Btw, I corrected the eye by pulling my upper lid(if object is under upper lid)out and down over my lower lash. This removed something that was lodged since the day before.
