My husband has Parkinson's. His neurologist gave him a new medication and told me it's okay to use PRN, which means "as needed", starting and stopping at will. About two weeks into it, he started having bad side effects like insomnia and Restless Legs Syndrome, so I stopped it. From there, his Parkinson's symptoms accelerated at a shocking pace. He was functioning well three months ago with a little bit of memory loss and now he's got dementia and hallucinates almost constantly. His sleep/wake cycle is shattered. His homeostasis, the body's ability to regulate its own equilibrium and biochemical balance, is shattered. His blood pressure is out of control. I'm planning to have him admitted to a memory care facility soon because my own health is suffering from the chaos.
The provider who gave him the drug is in complete denial about the possibility that the drug caused this even though, by the standard test of cognitive function that they give everyone with Parkinson's, he has lost about half of his cognitive ability in that short three month time period. Complete denial and blaming me for stopping the medication. All she's about is covering her ass.
I'm pissed. My husband is dissolving in front of my eyes into someone I don't recognize.

Not going to argue with him. I live with my husband. I observed ten years of very slow, subtle, gradual disease progression, and then a two-month period of steep decline directly following the administration of this drug, which was taken for a month, not for two weeks.
Twice, nurses tried to give my mom high blood pressure med when her blood pressure was 89/69, and 94/68. She had been on lasix to teduce ascites, due to kidney failure. Had been on high bp pills before admittance, but her blood pressure during hospital stay was low with bp pills due to dialysis/lasix. They had just taken her vitals a half hour before, and came in to give her meds. I always asked what they were giving, and twice, they tried to give her bp pills. I asked them " didnt you see her vitals? Her bp is low. You are not giving her those. So they asked my mo if she wanted them, and mom looked at me and said no.
Idiots. I had my emt license, and knew better. There is no reason they didnt ask dr to amend order or use common sense.
When my dh had hheart blockage, and went to er they gave him a shotvof coumadin. Then he got into the rm, and a nurse camd up and said she was going to give him a shot. I asked "what is it?". And she said "coumadin". I told her they just gave him one in er and was he supposed to get another...she checked the computer, then went downstairs and came back up and said "never mind".
I will not let a loved one stay at the hospital by yhemselves. There are too many mistakes made. If you ever have to go to a hospital, have someone stay with you, andcask before they give you any medicine. Whatvis it, why am i getting it, do i need it based on my vital signs and condition.
