Measles vaccine is one of the best there are. Very few people who have been immunized against measles get the disease. In the Disney epidemic, 77% of those for whom records were available were unimmunized, and another 8% had only had one dose of vaccine (85% total). Only about 12% had two (or more, 1 person had 3) doses. 1% had evidence of either vaccination or disease, it's unknown which. These numbers do not add up to 100% due to rounding. Keep in mind as well that many more people were exposed and didn't get the disease. There were 49 cases of measles in the US in 2016 through August.

Rubella is best measured by the occurence of congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) a dangerous syndrome in which fetuses of infected pregnant mothers develop many different types of birth defects. In 2013, there were 3 (three) cases of CRS in the US. Therefore, one can conclude that the vaccine is doing its job.

Mumps disease has seen a resurgence the past few years, among vaccinated and unvaccinated. However, the rate of disease is very low, indicating that the vaccine is highly efficacious. At the University of Illinois, there were 317 mumps cases among students and faculty/staff. There are about 30,000 students alone, and many faculty/staff. That is a very low disease rate.
"many more people were exposed and didn't get the disease". Ever consider that perhaps these people didn't get the disease because they already had measles themselves as children?

The vaccine has been given for around fifty years. Plus, 75% of the U.S. population is 50 or younger. Vaccination has been widespread. The immunity exists because of the vaccine.

What markg said. The incidence of measles cases dropped like a stone with the advent of vaccination in 1963. The US was declared 'measles free' in 2000. That means all cases since then have been imported from other countries. So no, Jo, I never did consider that.

This^^^^^ AND they guess (scientifically) which variation of the flu will spread in that given year, and they put two A strains and a B (?? not positive on this, doing stuff from old memory).

You CAN catch an influenza strain that isn't in the vaccine.

If you are just coughing and have a stuffed up nose, it is not influenza.

Last time I had it (2002) I was running a 103 fever, just lied in bed too sick to be bored. So sick going to the doctor seemed like an insurmountable task.

It kills about 30K a year, and when you have it, you understand why.

Right, sometimes I wonder if people get a cold after having the flu shot and then get all "see, it doesn't work."

The last time I had the flu was right after college, and I remember feeling like death. Your skin hurts, you're simultaneously too hot and too cold, you can barely get up or bathe or eat. I'll get the shot every year, because I never want to feel like that again.

The fact that you got the flu right after getting a shot basically proves you got the shot.

No, you cannot get the flu from the shot. The virus in it is inactivated and cannot cause an infection. The vaccine takes about two weeks to work, so if you are exposed during that time frame you can still catch it. The vaccine only protects against the strains included in it, so you can take the vaccine and still get another strain. Flu vaccines can also mutate during a season, but I have seen no reports of that happening this year.

You may have a low grade fever and feel a little achy after the shot, but that is due to the immune system responding to the vaccine. It is not influenza infection.
