My scalp doesn't hurt if I don't wash my hair but it gets itchy. I can't go more than a day or two without washing my hair. I use a combination of a coal tar shampoo, Nizoral, and regular dandruff shampoo such as Pert or Head & Shoulders. I use the regular dandruff shampoos most days. Not that the coal tar shampoos and Nizoral are supposed to be left on the scalp for 5 minutes. I rarely have time to do this but it would probably be more effective if I did. The Nizoral is more expensive but it seems to work better than the coal tar shampoos.

I think something I eat makes my scalp hurt. I haven't quite figured out what it is...but it causes my scalp to literally hurt when I touch it. Not itch...it's pain! Since I cleaned up my diet (limited carbs, sugar) it seems to have improved.

Also, itchy scalp is a separate issue and that has pretty much cleared itself up by eliminating dairy.

I don't know if this is the same thing... But I once had a sandwich with horseradish... I felt like the top of my skull had blown off each bite I took. I have never tried HR again.
