Right now my husband is in ICU with exactly something they can't figure out. He has a massive infection throughout his body, temp shot up to over 104 which is super scary for someone his age and he couldn't stand up.This came on in a period of minutes. They have everything under control right now. He should be moved today and maybe home in a day or so, but the hold up is; they do not know the cause of the infection. We think it was a cat bite he got about 4 or 5 days ago, that is how they are treating it anyway. When they find out, if they do, what is causing the infection they can be sure of the treatment and probably send him home.

Cat bites can easily cause infections, I 've had them twice, but now nearly as bad.

Best wishes to your husband and his recovery.

Sorry to hear about your husband's recent infection issue and it brought back my memories of what I've been thru with the 2.5 mo. infection going on before the doc's did an MRI. All thru my pain and swollen knee, I didn't have a fever. That was my first ever infection except for ear infection yrs ago and it was cleared up pretty fast with the abx I was given. Hope he will be coming home soon and feeling much better...I always made sure I took probiotics when taking the drugs for my recent infection.

Again, take the probiotics when you are finished with the antibiotics, or they will just get killed off.

Thanks, I think he will be discharged today and am pretty sure he will be on mass doses of whatever for a few weeks at least.

You can take probiotics while you are on antibiotics. You just need to space them out 2 hours in between taking each.

well he is home, doing much better. The blood culture did show it was a animal bacteria that did the damage, so we are positive it was the kitty cat that scratched him. Except for having weak legs he is doing great, glad to be out of prison as he calls it. He will be on antibiotics for about 10 more days, then see his regular PCP and follow whatever advise he has. One thing we have learned for sure, if you are taking care of cats you do know well, it is best to wear long pants regardless how hot it might be outside

Cool. I read that it is good for people who get the runs with antibiotics. I didn't even know that was a side effect. /lol

To answer the question in the topic, I have an issue with my gums that my dentist and periodontist can't solve. It's very frustrating to say the least.
