In a reversal of trends, American baby boomers scored lower on a test of cognitive functioning than did members of previous generations, according to a new nationwide study.

Considering that the study (according to that brief take-away anyway) didn't distinguish between subjects who were on statins from those who weren't, you can't make this assumption. You'd have to dig in to the details of the study design to tease this out. Yet another example of trying to support an existing bias by drawing the wrong conclusion from the wrong research.

I didn’t read the whole article but recently I took an AARP brain health test on cognitive thinking and had so much trouble using my ipad to indicate the correct answers. I would touch an answer and it wouldn’t register. I received a pretty low score, and con’t even give relevance to the results due to all the technical obstacles. So I am wondering how this testing was administered compared to previous generations.

Hi I am a scientist that wants to make a point off results but I don't want to have to prove it.. "linked".
I think you're focused on just one factor and trying to attribute all decline to that one.
There are also articles on how boomers are more physically frail (aging badly) compared to their predecessors. There seem to be a lot more of them with significant hip, back, and other joint problems affecting their mobility. That covers obesity and inactivity, which was mentioned above.
Social isolation would cover three of the above traits.
Because of the above, they may have other health issues that lead to need for statins, heart medications, and pain medications, all of which can affect energy and cognition.
