This. Cold weather means people stay inside and come into more and closer contact with each other (and surfaces). So the germs just get passed around more and easier. Also why illnesses increase as soon as schools starts again.
A couple years ago, we had a solid month of rain, which is really unusual for us. It was the middle of summer, but doctors were seeing a huge surge in colds and even the flu. Turns out everyone was doing indoor activities and passing everything around.
