This. Cold weather means people stay inside and come into more and closer contact with each other (and surfaces). So the germs just get passed around more and easier. Also why illnesses increase as soon as schools starts again.

A couple years ago, we had a solid month of rain, which is really unusual for us. It was the middle of summer, but doctors were seeing a huge surge in colds and even the flu. Turns out everyone was doing indoor activities and passing everything around.

Be careful with those humidifers. We moved into our new house in Pa. where the previous owner used one. We have pink mold on the carpets all under where his furniture was. Need to rip up all the carpets. Cannot get rid of it. When I worked in a public school in Florida and had white mold under tables and chairs in the classroom, they moved us out of those rooms. Everyone was getting sick.

Originally from the NE and lived in South Florida for 10 years. Know all about mold; black, white, pink, and yellow. Not to get OT, but all mold can make you sick; while you are worrying about putting moisture back in the air in Winter months to prevents colds, etc. Mold is very difficult to get rid of, and WILL make you sick.
