Have you thought about obtaining a cancer insurance policy to help with your anxiety? If you choose a good company, they pay well after a diagnosis. I’ve heard people say that it really helped with personal expenses and added extra financial assistance at a difficult time..

The one I hear the best things about is through the company, AFLAC. In addition to a cancer policy, you can also have other special policy types, too. There are policies for hospitalization, short term disability, long term disability, long term care, etc. If one of your main concerns is loss of income or medical bills in the case of accident or illness, you can get policies that can be there for you. If you are young, healthy, and have no preexisting conditions, I suggest looking into a long term disability policy. This is a policy that comes in and gives you an income when it has been determined you can no longer work to support yourself. When you apply, it can be involved, but good to have for your future. It’s different than short term disability in that short term is for a designated period where long term can go to retirement age.

While I wouldn’t say that I constantly worry about it, my sister just died of metastatic breast cancer, so now I worry that mine will come back too.

Ten years after her treatment for breast cancer, it came back in her bones. She fought it for7 years. I will be 10 years cancer free this year. Every so often, I think to myself, Is this the day?

Before my sister’s came back, I never gave it a thought.

I didn't read the whole thread, so maybe someone posted this already...

You can get a PET scan that shows any cancer throughout your body. It involves radioactive sugar. I had one a few years ago, and got a twofer; cancer in 2 different places!

They're VERY expensive (my share after insurance was $5K). But what price peace of mind?

If you've got an anxiety disorder fixated on cancer it won't buy peace of mind. You'll think, say a week later - but what if I've got cancer now. What if it missed the start of a cancer too small to detect etc etc.

The underlying anxiety disorder should be treated.
