I live in Houston where it is always hot or close to hot. If I order Omega 3 online say Amazon, it will come in a truck which sits under the sun for a long time thus making the fish oil liquid rancid.
If I buy from Costco it is the same thing. I used to buy from them but in summer time, the pills in the bottle got stuck to each other due to extreme hot weather outside
Does CVS or walgreens have precautions for this? How do I make sure the omega 3 pills I am buying are not rancid?
Whole Foods has a refrigerated section for things such as omega 3 and probiotics. A local health food store or small pharmacy might also have something like that.
Break one open and taste it, if it's rancid you will be able to tell.

Just because omega 3 pills are refrigerated in the store does not mean they were not exposed to extreme during transportation.
Buy some flaxseeds and grind them. Put them in your smoothie or on a salad. Then you have good omega 3 that your body can use as well as fiber that you need too.

Problem solved.
That's what I do. I keep the seeds in the fridge both before and after grinding. Coffee grinder works well.
As far as supplements, Puritan's Pride has been the best for me. They manufacture almost everything they sell and their prices are great. They have about ninety-leven quality control checks they do on all products. I switched to them after other pills I took were making a similar appearance, ahem, exiting my body, as they were going in.

Is the omega 3 in flax seeds same as the one in fatty fish?
According to what I have been reading, AHA which is the Omega 3 we get from plants has to be converted to EPA/DHA for the body to use it. I eat Flax, Avocado, Almonds etc on a daily basis but I don't eat that much fish. EPA/DHA is contained in fish and seafood. Only a small percentage of AHA is converted to EPA/DHA.
As far as Flax going bad, I've yet to experience that. I have bought it packaged and in bulk, organic and non-organic and it has all held up for me anyway. It is a good idea that once you open the package to keep in an air tight jar or in the fridge.
As for Omega 3 supplements going bad, if the package is sealed and it has not expired they should still be good. Once you open them they are supposed to last at least 90 days. They should be refrigerated after you open them.
