I've taken 6 shots in my left eye so far at 450.00 a shot. My eye doctor hasn't told me how many more shots will I need. I have so far two Retinopathy laser treatments.
Not quite sure where you are going with this but I get a shot in the eye about 3 out of 4 months for Wet macular degeneration. We take a look at the pictures every month and decide. I would rather not ...but I prefer to see out of both eyes as long as I can. You feel differently?
I am on Medicare so the cost is not much of an issue. I use a Plan F as I am a very expensive patient. My treatments go more than $50,000 a year. Is that not what health insurance is for?

I just wondering when my shots will end if ever. I don't have medicare and cann't get it. I know of a 82 year old lady that has 1500.00 per shot in both eyes for last 3 years at cost of 45,000 dollars. She has some drug program that pays half of the costs for the shots.

Compared to what the 82 year old lady is paying, sounds as though your $450/shot is a deal, though I know that's pricey as well. You can ask your doctor about the number and duration of your shots. If you aren't on Medicare, Medicaid or Tricare, ( ie, government sponsored prescription drug plans)you may be able to get some help paying for your shots from the manufacturer of the drug that you are getting. And they will often work with any insurance you have ( as long as it isn't one of the above mentioned).Perhaps you already are, but if not, it's well worth looking into. Check the manufacturer's website for details, you can get that by googling the name of your drug.
At 70yrs old i have been diagnosed with macular degeneration in my right eye thats diabetes related,have had about a dozen shots of a drug called Avastin every 6 weeks,it sure is nice to maintain my vision,doc says i'll be getting the shots for the rest of my life. Fortunately i live in Canada so the shots are free.
I can't comment on the shots but always think of prevention and a friend who is 80 just told me she got the macular dx recently. She has gone thru cataract surgery and has worn contact lens for probably 50+ yrs. I attempted contacts in my 20's but could not do it so never tried again. Could the contacts have any bearing on these eye diseases.
Personally I use eye support supplements for my eye health.

I'd love to pay more taxes for "free" insurance but I'm SURE a lot tougher to do this in a country of 300million vs 30million. I've thought this for years as this has been discussed by others. Politicans have worked this over and over. Don't know if it's feasible in the U.S.

The rest of the world has some form of government run healthcare for its citizens including such places as India and China, i think Americas problem is its too much about the money than the health care particularly when i read people paying enormous monthly payments and high deductibles, if you want universal healthcare vote in people who will bring it about,Bernie Sanders comes to mind.
My husband so far has had about 15 to 20 shots for Macular degeneration and will continue to need them from now own about ever two months.The are very expensive but are fully covered under first Plan F and now Plan G Medicare supplement program.
