My left ear in particular hasn't equalized a week after it plugged up on an airplane. I never heard of such a thing before. I will make a doctors appointment but until then has anyone had any experience with this? It must be an eustachian tube issue. What kind of treatment would you expect?

I had a friend years ago with the same issue...I don't know all the details but he let it go a long time and I think he ended up losing some of his hearing - so glad you're getting it checked out. It may just be wax and easily resolved but no reason to take a chance if there is some pressure on your eardrum, infection, etc.

My guess is wax. My expectation is a flush by the Dr & you'll be good as new. Let us know how it turns out!

I went to a clinic today to get wax out. There was quite a buildup but unfortunately it didn't resolve this. One thing is I should mention is I had a cold when I was on the plane...that could be a reason this is happening.

mine always used to do that after a flight. I now use EarPlanes; plugs that are ventilated that I use during take off and landing. Works so great

I had something similar happen to me in college. I had a cold, went on a flight, and even a couple of days after returning, still felt as though my ear was clogged/had fluid trapped in it. I went to the doctor and had my ear flushed, which removed a fair amount of wax, but the problem didn't completely resolve. A couple of weeks later, I was sitting in an Accounting class and heard a loud pop, and my hearing was immediately much more clear; like someone had flipped a switch. It was so loud (to me, anyway) that I remember looking around to see if anyone else noticed, but of course, they hadn't.

After that, everything was back to normal. I've never had any residual problems. If I had a been older and wiser (not to mention had access to more resources), I probably would have been more proactive about trying to resolve it.

I went SCUBA diving in October. I had issues with my ears since then. I went to the doctor, who said he didn't see any damage and he felt like I might've just had trouble equalizing/getting any excess air out of . Anyway, I just noticed this week that I THINK my ears might've finally gone back to normal. Holy crap.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will use it next time I fly.

Your experience gives me hope. I would love to have that loud pop.
