I was at the gym today and someone like three feet away was coughing and I felt something wet hit my eye . Then I looked and he was still coughing without covering mouth and I was pissed that people are so inconsiderate.

I have really bad anxiety and this happens can you get HIV or anything else from cough fluid landing in eye I am not sure if it want in eye I just felt my eye lid was wet and wiped it with my towel.

I will never know if this person had blood in mouth .

Hopefully some doctors on here?

Seriously? Calm down - and don't expect that doctors are really bothering to read forums!

When we are out in public, we are constantly bombarded by germs from others. Don't tell me that you manage to use equipment in a public gym and think that you are not exposed to germs even if you wipe down the equipment beforehand. Do you never inadvertently touch your own eye or mouth while doing so?

Do the best you can to keep your immunity and health level up, wash your hands regularly and carry on.

Your extreme anxiety is far more likely to be debilitating to you than random sputum – even if a speck hit you in the eye.

I hope you're receiving treatment to help you cope more effectively and reduce your worry.

LOL...I think you’re imagining things. Maybe it was your own sweat. The scary coughing guy hasn’t infected you with HIV!

I personally know of at least two MDs who read and contribute to CD and not necessarily in this forum.

Gyms are petrie dishes and I am sure you have exposed yourself to all kinds of icky germs while working out. I seriously doubt the person coughing has any infectious diseases, after all he is at the gym. There is zero you can do about it anyway so don't stress out about it.
