From time to time I will take a nap during the early art of the afternoon and when I wake up I am so hungry I almost cannot stand it.
Sometimes I can have just eaten a large meal just 15 minutes before napping and be asleep less than 1 hour and I will wake up so hungry that I will be in an absolute panic to eat ANYTHING IMMEDIATELY.
I am never hungry in the morning and in fact, the idea of food totally puts me off before noon.
Can't explain it, I'm hungry after a good night's sleep. I eat a substantial breakfast. Actually, I'm never really greatly hungry as I pretty much graze thru the day. Stop eating by at least 6PM.

Can anyone explain this odd occurence?

I experience the same thing after an afternoon nap. I'm not quite ravenous but I do need to eat something immediately. I attribute this to a drop in blood sugar during the small sleep cycle. A friend and I were just talking about this, recently, and she has the same issue.
No, not necessary to check and not odd in the least. I have normal blood sugar - small drops are normal. Many of us get it after vigorous exercise, if we wait too long to eat, etc. If there were significant symptoms associated with it or other health-related issues it might be cause for concern.
