I've taken it for allergic reactions. I usually feel great when I'm taking steroids because it helps reduce inflammation all over my body, but the side effects of weight gain and higher blood sugar aren't great. The times I've taken it, it's a tapered dose for ten days.
I've only taken it when I had a really itchy or painful allergic rash. Sometimes I'll get a single shot of methylprednisolone if I go to urgent care for a food reaction or asthma symptoms that don't improve with my rescue inhaler.
Steroids are damaging to the bones and cartlidge. Personally and I've heard enough from doctors, it's a last resort drug. One may get temporary relief but it's temporary.

Just depends on what you need it for...if you can't breathe because your tongue and throat are so swollen, or you have a rash so painful you haven't slept in days, steroids are a good thing to have.

Yes, I get that, a friend is asthmatic and she's done a lot of steroids in her life. She also has pretty advanced osteoporosis.
