I’m not a drinker (maybe a beer/week) and neither was my mom. I have idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. My mom had a really bad case of it, debilitating for her. There are probably a lot of things that go on with this so you might have been a tee-totaler and still be in the same shape you are.

I am sorry you are having a problem. I have never heard it connected to alcohol unless you drank a heck of a lot. Of course you say, 40 years but not how much you drank a day or a week or whatever. I know this is an ailment that affects many of us as we age. In fact probably more than we realize. It didn't used to have a name, now everything does. Now that I read how much you drank it is easy to understand the connection. As for a warning, I think most people who drink as much as you apparently did would not be stopped by warnings. Most of us know when we need to quit or cut back. We just do not always do it, nor do most of us really know when it is too much. Needless to say, the amount your drank was too much.
