I have a white scar on my hand (well, two white scars, but one is more visible than the other) as a result of me cutting myself with a knife eleven years ago (back in early 2007).

Anyway, I was wondering when exactly you think we will be able to regrow human skin. After all, I would certainly like to replace my scar(s) with fresh, regrown skin that has my own DNA. However, I would also like to do this without removing any skin from any other part(s) of my body.

Any thoughts on this?

Well, we can do this now and burn victims are benefitting from the technology. But it needs to be done shortly after the wound is created and skin still needs to be taken. Sometimes it can come from a cadaver. Or there is also a type of synthetic material they can use in some cases.

If the skin isn't too deeply damaged it can fill in under a mesh of the skin or material. But I don't know the circumstances for the use of either.

Is there any way to do this right now for a decade-old wound/scar, though?
